It must be a bug, since I have the exact same problem. Workstation 9.0.2 on 64bit Linux, 32bit Win7 guest, VMware Tools 9.2.3. Even after uninstalling the tools, rebooting the VM, then reinstalling the tools, I get the same error every time I power up the VM.
