Ping(ICMP)

Issue connecting with ESXI

Hi,

I have one server, esxi 6.0 up 2, and for the life of me I can not connect to it from a specific PC.

Host is IP 2.3, Backups PC is 2.17, I use VEEAM.

I cannot open vsphere client to 2.3 from 2.17.

There is no IP conflict.

I am at 99.x across a vpn and can open 2.3 flawlessly.

2.17 can open MY vm at 99.3 via vpn

I can ssh / telnet to 2.3 from 2.17

I can not HTTP or vsphere client to 2.3 from 2.17

I have reinstalled ESXI on 2 new SD cards on 2.3

We even replaced our backups server 3 months ago and this issue happened on last backups server.

The server is not vlan'd, nothing special. just a 2.0 subnet,

I have removed all preferences / registry entries / program files for vmware on 2.17 and tried again, it just has a hard time connecting to this ONE esxi server.

nothing changed except password, hostname, ntp settings, snmp settings, but those are global across our 50+ clients and 80+ hosts, just this one client having this issue.

If i restart management services on host via ssh, it can connect for about 2-3 min. Its a plain jane install.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Stephen

vm guest uptime not updating

so recently i rebooted a guest os inside my vcenter 5.5 i was looking at the uptime on vcenter and it showed greater than 180 days uptime but i know i just rebooted the vm.  is there a process in vcenter or vsphere that correlates uptime?  if so when does that process update and how frequently?

You should check the VM log file. Check which datastore the VM is resided and open a SSH session to the VM host and then try to power on the virtual machine.

tail -f /vmfs/volumes/datastore vm is resided/vm folder/vmware.log

$ service open-vm-tools status

$ journalctl -u open-vm-tools

Did you make any recent changes? Upgrade? Driver updates?

Disconnect a ESXi host won't have any impact on your VMs. You might change the root password and then re-connect the host to vCenter.

Don't worry. It is not an issue. Storage DRS may place the vmdk files in different datastores.

Are you using Distributed Virtual Switch? Is your trunk configured properly? Did you set VLAN id of the management network ?

Re: pcoip_win32_server.exe NOT Using Enough vCPU

Just saw this post. Don't know if you are still experiencing the issue.

Looking at these registry settings, setting max and min image quality = 100 will slow down the encoding with little noticeable benefit to full-screen compressed video. So, unless you are dealing with raw-pixel videos, you should drop the pcoip.maximum_initial_image_quality = 90 and keep the pcoip.minimum_image_quality = 50. Also,pcoip.maximum_frame_rate = 30 will eliminate unnecessary compute cycles since most video content is 24 or 30 fps. 120 fps sample rate is excessive.

Finally, be sure that your server power setting is set to "high performance" instead of the default (https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1018206)

Even with these changes, the pcoip_win32_server.exe is single threaded and will max out around 60 Million Changed Pixels per Second (Mpps) per VM. The PCoIP Hardware accelerator card will support up to 80Mpps per Display which means 160Mpps for a dual display system so that it can improve your experience even if there is only one VM on the system.

Re: vSphere Backups, any idea if a backup file taken from a 5.5 host will be valid when applied to a 6.0 host

No I didn't make any update or upgrade. I just shutdown in proper way, after after that when I turn it on it is stuck. It looks strange because I can't see any error.

I have finished last week good, I have installed some VM hosts.

packaging a windows 2003 service to run on windows 2008

Hello,

I am trying to package a service that runs on windows 2003 to be able to run it on windows 2008.

I did a pre-scan, installed the service, and then ran  a post scan and created an exe and an msi installer.

When I installed the msi on windows 2008, it did not install a service and did not work. What am I doing wrong? can someone point me to the correct procedure for this?

thanks!

Reboot the host. When the DCUI image shows up press ALT + F12 to see the vmkernel log . Send it here when you're done.

I have a UCS B200 M4 blade that received the following errors:

on 8/10/2016 8:18PM

Host is not responding

vSphere HA detected a possible host failure of this host

on 8/12/2016 11:15 AM

vSphere HA agent for this host has an error: The vSphere HA agent is not reachable from vCenter Server

and on 8/15/2016 1:19 PM (today)

At least one coredump target has been configured. Host core dumps will be saved.,

The host is showing a status/state of Connected (with uptime of 3 days) .

What is the recovery procedure?

Thanks,

Glen

Two years later still suffering the same problem.  Obviously something's 'locked' the network settings.  The hassle is how to unlock it...

Two hours later...

  • Shut down the VM.
  • Send VMWare to the trash
  • Empty the trash
  • Reboot the Mac
  • Re-install VMWare

Finally the network settings are not disabled.  Running the VM,  the thing can finally connect to the intarwebs.

Now to continue with the *work* I need to get done tonight...
